Mel’s been going to a Chinese class the past couple of weeks. She came home this week fresh from her lesson, she says
“你是我的家“。 (ni shi wo de jia)
You are my home.
I wasn’t very encouraging or loving when I brushed it off.
It doesn’t quite sound grammatically correct nor do we actually say it like that in Chinese.
I realized this morning during devotion that I had “missed” a moment.
A creative moment.
A juxtaposition of words that formed a unique expression in a new found language.
I apologized.
She is my home and I am hers.
A unique oneness.
Home.
A place of rest.
Love.
Comfort.
Security.
Trust.
Support.
You are my home.
I am reminded of the concepts of being “at home” with God.
Like David, desiring to be in God’s presence.
To be in that place of intimacy and oneness and knowing.
I am also reminded of those few lines I wrote a while ago:
take me home
to my slides+swings
my favorite things
forever
take me home
my legos+dreams
to my childhood playthings
forever
Another thing I realized in this AM’s devotion was to not neglect your home.
Serve, minister to others but not at the expense of your home.
Thank you for my home.
